Falconcrest: The Hometown Transfer

 Falconcrest:

The Hometown Transfer

One of the best parts of my job was the travel but my career was coming to an end, and when I received the news of my transfer to my hometown of  Falconcrest I was elated. Always a bit of an amateur archeologist and historian, the thought of an opportunity to re-explore the Renaissance Village  made me that much more excited to get packed and take a few days of leave time before reporting for work. The final few weeks seemed to drag on and on, out-processing felt like it took months to complete, but finally with household goods shipped, and reservations made I was on my way.

Tyrion Castle resort was full of activity. I quickly checked in and planned to head up to my room and relax for the rest of the day, but I was distracted by an elderly man, slight in build, using a cane to move about and reminding me of someone from my youth. As I looked again, the man approached, holding a satchel tightly against his chest, he had a look of urgency on his face and in his eyes. He waved and called out to me, calling me by name, could it be my family friend? No, it is impossible he would have to be well over one hundred and twenty years old!

As the man drew near he must have noticed the confusion on my face, his pace quickened as he walked towards me and when he was close enough forced the satchel into my hands.

"There is much to tell you", he began, "but know that I am Samuel, your fathers old friend. I do not have much time as there are men looking for the contents of this satchel and will do anything to retrieve it, you must protect this as your father and I have done for hundreds of years. Meet me tonight at the old abandoned mine and I will explain everything, Do you remember this place?"

Before I had a chance to answer, Samuel was gone blending into the crowd. The mine Samuel spoke of was my sanctuary, a place for me to go and play amateur explorer in my youth. I went to my room and hid the satchel behind the dresser before walking down to Camelot Circle to get to the mine. No sooner than stepping out of the elevator in the lobby I was approached by a hooded figure asking about Samuel. I told the stranger that I had not seen him since I left Falconcrest 18 years ago. The strange man seemed to believe my story and walked off but not before telling me that he must speak with Samuel and if I see him to convey the message.

A creepy feeling washed over me and I decided to walk around town for a while before heading to the mine. As I approached the town square I noticed two men dressed in the same fashion as the stranger who approached me earlier. I returned to the resort and went to my room. When I arrived I discovered my room in shambles, tossed as if someone was looking for something. Looking behind the dresser I noticed the satchel was still there. It was time to get to the mine and confront Samuel about what was happening.

Slipping through a doorway across from my room I was able to traverse a pathway which would lead to the old Inn unseen. As I walked up the street and took the path leading to the mine I found Samuel lying on the ground. I ran to him and but before I could get to him I was met by the stranger from the resort. Two men grabbed me and held me while I was questioned about the satchel. The hooded stranger kept asking where the satchel was where it was hidden, I refused to answer telling him I did not know what he was talking about, or anything about a satchel.

When I woke, I looked around to get my bearings. Samuel was still lying on the ground, I ran to him. Barely breathing Samuel began to speak

"Satchel.......... Hidden tomb........ 3 keys in cathedral........ do not let your father obtain the keys." And with those last words, Samuel died.

My father? Impossible my father died 20 years ago, the reason I entered the military. I raced back to my room in the resort and removed the satchel from its hiding place. Opening the main pocket of the satchel I found it to be empty. Further inspection of the satchel reveled a small pocket with a few papers hidden within. One page contained a map and several other pages of hand written notes. Although the map or the notes did not describe the exact location of the tomb, several clues were contained in the writings to help find its location.

......In a building named for a local hero of Falconcrest

.....not used for academia

......Shares its name with another landmark in Falconcrest

The notes also tell of a mysterious object located deep within the tomb which will give unlimited power to anyone found worthy of wielding it. Those found not worth will suffer a painful death and be cursed to a life of undead servitude to protect the object. For Samuel I must locate the keys and stop anyone from reaching that tomb.............
